Yesterday, Sharon and I were hoping to use our last Restaurant.com coupon for 2009 at Y-O Ranch Steakhouse. But our hopes were crushed when we got there. They were having a Christmas party and we weren’t invited. So the manager there was kind enough to suggest a place across the street in downtown Dallas called RJ Mexican Cuisine. He said it was the “2nd best place to eat downtown”. We didn’t have many options at the moment and we love mexican food, so we decided to give it a try and found out he was wrong. It’s the best place to eat downtown!

Sharon and I shared the Chiles Rellenos with chicken and the Chicken Tortilla soup. Both were excellent with lots of smoked chicken and roasted vegetables. My only regret was not having enough room “in my belly” to order dessert.

Last night we went out with another couple to this restaurant and it was worth the wait. The atmosphere is trendy like Loft 610 where the “pretty people” are hanging out by the bar. But don’t let that stop you from trying this place out. Make sure you take a flashlight or use the light from your cell phone so you can see the menu. It was a bit dark where we sat and it’s very loud. But again the food is awesome. Maybe you could go early to miss the wait and the noise.

I had a wood fired pizza called Rosemary’s Chicken – Chicken, white wine, rosemary, roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, Marinated fresh mozzarella, garlic.

And Sharon had the Texas Pecan & Fig salad – Organic field greens, peppered sweet Texas pecans, bleu cheese, pears, house made Black Mission fig dressing.

CPK, as several people call it, is one of my favorites because it has great servers and great food. I’ve never been disappointed with this place. Today we had some soup, pizza and salad.

The Huevos y Papas are awesome – Crispy diablo potato cakes topped with salsa, green chiles, jack cheese, eggs cooked to order and fire roasted tomatillo sauce. Served with fresh strawberries and melon.

If you like Mexican food and have a big appetite, you need to try the Sunday Breakfast Brunch – $16.95/person. There is so much to pick from that you have take one small spoonful of each thing if you want to try most of the items. But save some room for desert.

This restaurant is new and just opened in Irving. It’s right around the corner from Cavalli Pizza. Sharon tried the tortilla soup and I got the soft tacos which were pretty good. The one neat thing about this place is the salsas because they have about 8 different kinds to choose from.

This is one of my favorite restaurants with some unique entrees. I couldn’t decide on what to get, so the cashier suggested the Asian Ginger Chicken Salad. Growing up I wasn’t a fan of food with ginger, so I’m surprised that I went ahead and order this. The picture most have sold me or I was just hungry.

This now one of my new favorites because of the full bold flavor of the ginger dressing which is a semi-clear white color. The portion size is perfect for me.

The chicken pad thai here was average and here’s the reason I say it’s average. I don’t like pad thai that has a lot of sauce and is too sweet. The places where the sauce is drier is generally better tasting. This could be based the style or region where this recipe originated.

The food here is very good and the prices are reasonable.

Update 5/31/08: We went back to try some new entrees. Sharon got the tortilla soup (good) and I got the ribs (which is kind of weird for a Mexican restaurant). The ribs were awesome and highly recommended.

Sharon and I split a salad and some fish tacos with a side of guacamole. It was beautiful spring day, so we sat on their patio and enjoyed the fresh air. We will definitely be going back here.
